Our products are all made from natural materials and most of them are hand made and therefore they do need to be treated with a certain amount of care.
We do not recommend the use of spray polishes as they contain silicones and will create a build up over time which will appear as a whitish bloom over the surface. This will prevent the wood from breathing and it will eventually appear dull.
We would suggest using soft pads under the feet of furniture, which stands on wood floors, to avoid scratching when the item is moved.
We advise that you do not place BTC furniture near direct heat, such as a fire or radiator, as this will cause the wood to shrink and crack. A very good tip, if you use central heating, is to place a small container of water near the radiator to ensure that there is some humidity in the air. Your BTC furniture will greatly benefit from this.
Any wet or hot cups, glasses or plates will make pale stains on the surface. Should you have a spill, mop it up immediately and make sure the surface is dry. Later, when you are sure the surface is completely dry, you can apply a very small amount of clear beeswax polish and polish gently with a clean, soft cloth. Never use abrasive cleaners or cloths. Marks can be easily avoided by using coasters and placemats which you will usually find in our range of products.
Dust with soft cloth and occasionally clean gently with damp cloth.
The greatest enemy of inlaid furniture is dehydration. So keeping the air slightly humid, as suggested above, will help.
Occasionally, perhaps once a month, your BTC inlaid furniture will benefit from a little ‘feed’. Clean with a damp, soft cloth and a mild soap detergent. Dry completely with a soft towel. Rub a small amount of clear beeswax polish over the surfaces. Allow to dry (about 10 minutes), then polish with a dry, soft cloth to a shine. Never use abrasive cleaners or cloths. If any pieces of the inlay have moved or been knocked off, use clear glue to mend. Allow to dry completely. Be sure that the items are not in direct sunlight as this may fade some exposed parts. It is advisable never to put hot cups or plates directly onto the surface. Use coasters and mats as protection.

To maintain the high gloss of lacquer furniture we advise that you dust daily and occasionally use a damp cloth and gentle soap detergent to clean. When completely dry, buff to a shine with a soft cloth. If there any scratches, use a small amount of white furniture cream on pale colours and a very small amount of tinted shoe cream of the same colour on deeper colours, then buff to a shine with a soft cloth until the cream no longer colours the cloth. We suggest that you do not place hot or wet items on the surface, but use coasters or mats to protect it from damage and unsightly marks. Never use abrasive cleaners or cloths.
It is possible to carry out spot staining on small areas with a proprietary brand of stain removal. It is advisable to employ the services of professional upholstery cleaners for cleaning the whole item.
