The major elements in furnishing a living room are – an armchair, or two if you have space, a sofa, or a pair, again if you have the room, a coffee table, a console table, some occasional chairs and a pair of side tables. These basic pieces will provide a functional and comfortable structure for your scheme. Around these items you can then start to build your choice of textiles, accessories and lighting. You should decide if these pieces are going to be traditional or contemporary and then you can begin to choose smaller pieces to highlight your design. Be careful not to overfill your space, a cluttered room is not welcoming. For inspiration, please visit BTCbyDESIGN’s, 'Designer Roomsets' or the ‘Living Room Furniture’ and ‘Gifts & Accessories’ sections.
Do not be tempted to buy ‘sets’ of furniture as these can often be visually rather boring and do not have the air of a designed and specially collected look. Try to choose pieces that are different and link them with colour and decorative textiles, such as cushions and throws. For an exciting collection of cushions, throws and rugs, please visit BTCbyDESIGN’s, ‘Rugs & Textiles’ section of the website.
The ‘links’ in your designed room are as important as the main pieces and remember, these are the items that you can change easily and without too much expense, giving your interior a fresh and new look. So spend time in finding unusual, beautiful and luxurious examples. BTCbyDESIGN has many to choose from, to browse over a dozen interior designed room sets, please visit the, 'Designer Roomsets' section. Our rugs, throws, cushions, lighting, mirrors and decorative accessories are both elegant and different from many you may find in the larger stores because 70% of our designs are commissioned and therefore unique, bespoke, but affordable.
Even though the living room is for relaxing with family and friends, be sure to create one or two different areas. For example, a corner with a good light for reading, maybe a small table with a chair for occasional work. If you have the space to position the tv in one part of the room so, that it does not dominate the whole, this will create an atmosphere of elegance and calm and an area for conversation, playing games and entertaining.
